Fellowship—a “togetherness,” a sharing of one life with another, a uniting of selves, a sense of common mission, a mark of acceptance, a partnership in life. Fellowship—modeled by God Himself and commanded within His Scriptures.
We find the perfect example of fellowship rooted in the Trinity, the “oneness” of God expressed in God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. God exists as three distinct persons, yet without division of nature, essence, or being. The Trinity Three are in absolute fellowship, harmony, and unity with one another.
When Jesus walked visibly among mankind in human flesh, He spent countless hours with His disciples fellowshipping with them—walking, talking, sitting, resting, sleeping, praying, instructing, eating, sharing, reflecting, laughing, worshipping. In other words, loving them and teaching them about the things of God.
The Bible clearly instructs us regarding our own fellowship with God and one another, “Let us draw near with a sincere heart . . . let us hold fast the confession of our hope . . . let us consider how to stimulate [literally, “provoke”] one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more, as you see the day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:22-25).
Christians, let us embrace God, our brothers and sisters in Christ, and His holy word!
Amen–Dennis
