The Bible, the word of God, testifies with absolute beauty how everything came into being—it simply, but profoundly, says, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). And indeed, He did!
Then, the Bible testifies how on the sixth day of creation, in the crowing work of God’s creative glory, He made mankind. It says that “God formed man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Gen 2:7). Awesome!
Then, the Bible testifies to how God placed Adam and Eve, the first man and woman, into a stunning perfect environment (the Garden of Eden), blessing them enormously and instructing them clearly concerning the desires of God (Gen 2). Wonderful!
Then, the Bible tells how man, under the temptation of Satan (the devil), rebelled against the clear commandments of God and fell into sin, guilt, shame, and disgrace (Gen 3). Tragic!
I have always been intrigued, at the onset of mankind’s great rebellion against his Maker, as to how God first addresses this terrible situation. The Scriptures say, “they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden (Garden of Eden) in the cool of the day, and the man (Adam) and his wife (Eve) hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. Then the Lord called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” (Gen 3:8-9).
Did God really not know where Adam and Eve were? Certainly, He did! The Lord knew exactly where Adam and Eve were located, both physically and spiritually. God ask the question so that Adam and Eve would now consider where they really were in relation to God—in sinful, shameful, deadly rebellion against their Creator!
Today, God wants you, the reader, to know exactly where you stand in relation to Him as well. If you have not yet called upon the name of Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord, then you stand in absolute rebellion just as your ancestral parents did. But there is “good news” for you! The Bible teaches that if you will confess your sins, believe upon the name of Jesus Christ, and devote your life to Him, then God will forgive you and make you His child forever. Now, it is as simple as the ABC’s:
A = Admit to God that you are a sinner (Romans 3:23); Repent, turning away from your sin (Acts 3:19).
B = Believe that Jesus is God’s Son (John 3:16); Accept God’s gift of forgiveness from sin (1 John 1:9).
C = Confess your faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord (Romans 10:9).
Yes, my friend, the Lord is still asking mankind that timeless question that all must ultimately answer, “Where are you?”
In Jesus,
Dennis
