On Sunday, January 15, 1961, under the guidance of the Lord, 102 charter members signed the church membership book, officially constituting Grace Baptist Church. The first service in the new church building, located at its present site in Glen Court, was conducted on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1961. Reverend W.O. Sheppard became the founding pastor in this awesome work.
Grace Baptist has grown physically, numerically, and spiritually over time. The congregation built a parsonage, added an educational wing, expanded its sanctuary, and acquired additional assets. We have baptized over five hundred people since our beginning, added another five hundred by member transfer, and have touched our community and world in countless ways. Although we remain small, the Lord has graciously walked with us.
As we look backward across all the years, we see clearly the power and faithfulness of God; now, as we look forward to the coming times, we set our hope on the goodness and providence of God.
